About Me
Abigail McDonald, PA-C, is a licensed and board-certified orthopedic physician assistant who works directly with Dr. Shawn Anthony, Associate Chief of Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Health System. Abigail assists Dr. Anthony in diagnosing and treating shoulder, hip, and knee injuries, using the latest minimally invasive techniques and arthroscopic surgery. She also provides preoperative and postoperative care, as well as patient education and counseling.
Abigail earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Trinity College and then completed the Physician Assistant training program at Pace University and Lenox Hill Hospital. Prior to joining Mount Sinai Orthopedics, Abigail gained clinical experience working at orthopedic sports medicine and hip preservation practices in NYC.
Abigail has a passion for sports medicine and helping athletes of all levels recover from their injuries and return to their optimal performance. A native of Westchester, NY, Abigail is an avid basketball player and equestrian, which led to a strong interest in sports medicine from a young age. She has extensive experience in working with professional and collegiate athletes, as well as recreational and weekend warriors. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
Abigail sees patients at the Orthopedic Center at Mount Sinai West, which offers comprehensive musculoskeletal care with on site x-ray, ultrasound and MRI. Abigail assists Dr. Anthony with surgeries at Mount Sinai’s outpatient surgical center, Manhattan Surgery Center.
Conditions treated and procedures performed include:
• Shoulder pain
• Rotator cuff tears
• Biceps pain / tendonitis
• Shoulder dislocations / labral tears / shoulder instability
• Meniscus tears
• Knee cartilage lesions (MACI, marrow stimulation, osteochondral grafts)

• Hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and hip labral tears
