Adam Bernheim, MD
Dr. Bernheim is a cardiothoracic radiologist who began his medical training by completing a six-year B.A./M.D. program out of high school. He then completed medical internship and radiology residency in New York followed by a sub-specialty fellowship in Boston while working clinically at the Massachusetts General Hospital and teaching and conducting research at Harvard Medical School.
While he enjoys day-to-day clinical cardiothoracic imaging and considers providing excellent patient care as the paramount priority (he reads approximately 25,000 cases per year), he also involves himself in research, teaching, lecturing, and writing. Through 2021, Dr. Bernheim has co-authored over sixty paper and poster publications, has written four textbook chapters, is an active reviewer for several journals, and has lectured at several medical conferences throughout the world, including at the Asian Congress of Thoracic Imaging in Taipei, Taiwan and the Cardiothoracic Imaging Symposium in Chengdu, China in 2019.
Dr. Bernheim's chief research interests include lung cancer screening, interstitial lung disease, radiofrequency ablative and cryoablative techniques, the role of PET/CT in the oncologic patient, cardiac computed tomography, and artificial intelligence and deep learning. He has served as international master for the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography two consecutive years during their winter meetings in Hawaii. In addition, he has served as a radiology board examiner (thoracic section) for the past three years for the American Board of Radiology. In 2019, Dr. Bernheim co-founded the Cardiothoracic Imaging Society of New York (CISNY). He also co-founded and co-hosts an international cardiothoracic imaging podcast, which has reached thousands of listeners across several dozen countries. Dr. Bernheim also serves on several boards and committees of local and national organizations and societies in addition to working as a consultant and advisor for medical industry for enterprises throughout the United States as well as Germany, Israel, and China.
Dr. Bernheim's pioneering work in COVID-19 has drawn has drawn enormous international exposure, including one Radiology article for which he was the lead author that has been downloaded over 350,000 times and has beencited by over one thousand subsequent articles. He is a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR) COVID-19 Imaging Registry Steering Committee as well as the Society of Thoracic Radiology (STR) COVID-19 Task Force. Moreover, his COVID-19 work has attracted the spotlight from the lay media. Specifically, he has appeared on live national television and radio many times, including CNN Cuomo Prime Time, CBS Evening News, Tucker Carlson Tonight, Bloomberg, NBC Evening News, and others. His work has also been cited countless times in lay print media, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and dozens of others.
Away from medicine, Dr. Bernheim enjoys reading, playing tennis, biking, and international travel.
