Agathe M De Pins
About Me
Agathe is a Master’s Student in Biomedical Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine. She is currently working in Dr. Alexander Charney's laboratory by looking at large scale genomics data in psychiatric disorders.
She graduated from McGill University in June 2018 with a B.Sc. in Anatomy and Cell Biology and a minor in Social Studies of Medicine.
While there, she developed a real interest in the interplay between sociological and biological factors in mental disorders. After studying the impact of media on the stigmatization of mental disorders with Dr. Robert Whitley and then early life stress influences in Dr. Dominique Walker’s lab, she investigated, under Dr. Gustavo Turecki, the impact of childhood abuse on death by suicide by looking at differential gene expression in pyramidal neurons of the prefrontal cortex.
Today, she has a real interest in neurology, psychiatric disorders, and the stigmatization of mental illness and wishes to pursue a career in medicine.
