About Me
Dr. Ajit Belliappa joined Mount Sinai in 2025 as a radiologist specializing in breast imaging. After completing his undergraduate studies at Lehigh University, he earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University School of Medicine. Dr. Belliappa then completed an internship at Lehigh Valley Hospital, followed by a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Hahnemann University Hospital. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology.
Dr. Belliappa's clinical activities include reading mammography scans, breast ultrasounds, and breast MRI scans, as well as performing image-guided breast biopsies.
In his professional community, Dr. Belliappa is a member of the American College of Radiology, the Society of Breast Imaging, and the Radiological Society of North America.
When discussing his role as a physician and his advice to patients, Dr. Belliappa explains, "Please do not delay your breast cancer screening, even if you have no family history of breast cancer and you have no breast symptoms. Breast cancer is most often found in those with no family history. Many early-stage breast cancers have no associated symptoms, and can only be found with breast imaging. Early detection of cancer commonly leads to lower impact treatments and favorable outcomes."
