About Me
Aleksandra (Sasha) Degtyar, MD, MS, is an Instructor of Emergency Medicine, Icahn Mount Sinai and T32 Research Fellow in Emergency Medicine who focuses on hypertension, avoidable emergency medicine referrals, and biostatistics.
Dr. Degtyar’s current and ongoing work centers on avoidable referrals to the emergency department. She is working to identify and characterize referrals for asymptomatic hypertension and is collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement evidence-based system-wide guidance for outpatient asymptomatic hypertension.
Dr. Degtyar completed her undergraduate education at UC Berkley. While attending the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, she researched the effects of recent policy changes on emergency department utilization. She attained a Masters of Science in Global Health at UCSF. In collaboration with providers and researchers at Muhimbili National Hospital she explored the barriers and facilitators to effective sepsis care. Dr. Degtyar completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Wellstar Kennestone in Marietta, GA where she helped develop the research curriculum. As part of her Research Fellowship with Mount Sinai, will earn a Masters in Clinical Research.
