Research

Dr. Kagen has worked with engineers and data scientists in artificial intelligence and machine learning to expedite diagnoses of various conditions, deploy models to improve efficiency and throughput, and to help uncover bias. He is also a recognized leader in developing novel ways to use MRI to characterize and monitor patients with lymphedema, and to evaluate pre-operatively breast cancer patients undergoing autologous-based tissue flap reconstruction. Previously, he has used novel MRI techniques and coils in the field of prostate MRI in order to improve patient comfort and image quality during prostate MRI examinations. He also focuses his research on diseases of the liver, with special attention to novel molecular imaging agents in MRI which can help provide insight into hepatocellular tumor biology.
