Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery
About Me
Dr. Alexis Colvin is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Senior Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She also serves as Chief Medical Officer for the US Open tennis tournament, team physician for the United States Billie Jean King Cup team, and has worked at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Widely recognized for her thoughtful, individualized approach, Dr. Colvin specializes in treating shoulder and knee disorders using state-of-the-art surgical techniques and biologic treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to help promote healing and recovery. Her practice reflects a commitment to restoring not only physical function, but also confidence and quality of life for athletes of all abilities.
Her leadership and contributions to sports medicine have earned wide recognition. Dr. Colvin was named to Crain’s New York Business “Notable Women in the Business of Sports” list during both years that it was awarded, and she is perennially selected to New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors,” “Super Doctors” and the “Castle Connolly Top Doctors” lists.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Colvin is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of orthoapedic surgeons. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and lectured internationally. Board certified in orthopaedic surgery, she is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
A graduate of Princeton University, Dr. Colvin earned her medical degree from Mount Sinai and completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. She then pursued a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, caring for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and numerous Division 1 NCAA teams.
As a marathon runner and mother of three athletes, Dr. Colvin deeply understands the importance of sport and is passionate about helping her patients return to play. Her commitment to aspiring competitors and women’s health extends beyond her clinical work through service on the board of “Let Her Play,” which promotes girls’ participation in sports, and on the Women’s Health Taskforce of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association).
