Ali M Haidar, MD
Ali received his Bachelor of Science magna cum laude and his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Prior to residency he contributed to national policies and guidelines serving refugees and underserved populations of Lebanon. He also served as an intern at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland where he contributed to the Mental Health Gap Action Plan. He completed his psychiatry residency at SUNY Downstate and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Mount Sinai where he served as Chief fellow. He has pursued additional training in Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at Columbia University’s Psychoanalytic Center and Adult psychodynamic Psychotherapy training at the Psychoanalytic Association of New York.
His interests include public psychiatry, psychotherapy, and cultural psychiatry. He sees a diverse group of patients with focus on: LGBTQI+ mental health, Child psychiatry, immigration, displacement and colonialism’s effect on the Psyche. He has presented his work in these fields at various international conferences and currently serves as the APA Early Career Psychiatrist on the Council on International Psychiatry and Global Health.
