About Me
Ana Claudia Costa, MD, MSc, is an Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As a heart surgeon, Dr. Costa specializes in valve surgery and reconstruction, leveraging her training to provide exceptional care to valvular patients. Additionally, she practices general adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting and heart failure management. Dr. Costa is dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive and multidisciplinary care to cardiac patients.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Costa conducts cutting-edge research in arrhythmic mitral valve diseases, focusing on the intricate relationship between rhythm changes and mitral valve pathology. Her studies encompass a range of topics, including rhythm changes post-mitral valve repair, atrial functional mitral regurgitation, and arrhythmic mitral valve disease. She is actively involved in national grants and research endeavors.
Dr. Costa graduated from the Federal University of Parana, in Brazil. She completed her residency in the Integrated Thoracic Surgery Residency Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and The Mount Sinai Hospital, in New York. Following this, she pursued two years of advanced training in reconstructive valve surgery at the same institution, gaining specialized skills in valve repair techniques. She also holds a Master of Medical Sciences in Clinical Investigation from Harvard Medical School.
