About Me

Andrea Schecter, MD, is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside. Dr. Schecter focuses her practice on general obstetrics and gynecology and has special interest in contraception and family planning, routine GYN checkups, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy), treatment of abnormal bleeding, and obstetric care.

Prior to joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Schecter was with New York University Langone Medical Center, where she served as a clinical assistant professor and attending physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Having a profound interest in women’s global health and refugee health, Dr. Schecter serves as a forensic evaluator and a member of the Asylum Network with Physicians for Human Rights, conducting evaluations and exams of asylum seekers. She also serves as a forensic evaluator, training students and residents, with Mount Sinai’s Human Rights Program. Dr. Schecter is a founding member of Hands Up For Haiti, supporting community-based prenatal care and a women’s health program in Northern Haiti. She completed a fellowship in the Reproductive Health Clinical Mentorship Program with the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Monrovia, Liberia. She has also lived and worked in rural Uganda, managing community health programs for Doctors for Global Health.

Dr. Schecter earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with Distinction in Research in Women’s Health, and received the Albert S. Kuperman Award for Field Work in Global Health. She is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes doctors and medical students who advocate for patients. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Schecter is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
