Andres Ramirez Zamudio, MD, MPH

About Me

Andrés Ramírez Zamudio, MD, MPH, is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and specialist in reproductive infectious diseases. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science and in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. His special interests include HIV care in and outside of pregnancy, anogenital HPV/dysplasia, sexually transmitted infections, minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery and care for transgender and gender non-conforming people.

Dr. Ramírez Zamudio received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Harvard University. He earned his Medical Degree from the Icahn School of Medicine and a Master’s in Public Health from the EHESP French School of Public Health in Paris, France, where he graduated with Highest Honors. He completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident. He went on to complete an apprenticeship in Reproductive Infectious Diseases under the tutelage of Dr. Rhoda Sperling at Mount Sinai. 

His interest in global and public health have led him to work as an epidemiologist with the French Red Cross in Laos, where he developed methodology to quantify HIV stigma in the country. He also served as a CDC Hubert Global Health Fellow in South Africa, where he evaluated a surveillance system monitoring ARV exposures in pregnancy. Currently he serves as the Principal Investigator on a clinical trial evaluating the implementation of injectable Pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention in women. 

Dr. Ramírez Zamudio is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and a member of the Infectious Disease Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology (IDSOG), the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). He is a certified HIV specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIV) and he has received the da Vinci® System Certification for performing robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. 

He has previously been honored with the Gates Millennium Scholar Award, the American Urogynecologic Society Award for Excellence in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, the Outstanding Teacher of Obstetrics and Gynecology award at Mount Sinai, and election into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society.
