Dr. Andrew Para earned his B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and received the Board of Trustees’ Scholarship Award for achieving the highest cumulative academic performance of all those graduating from the College of Natural Science. He went on to obtain his M.D. from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio, received multiple awards for his academic performance, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Para completed his residency training at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois as one of a handful of physicians to pursue dual training in both internal medicine and dermatology as part of the Combined Medicine-Dermatology Residency Program. He is now board-certified in both specialties.
In concordance with his training background, Dr. Para’s primary clinical focus is on medical dermatology and managing patients with complex systemic disease processes with cutaneous manifestations. He has a particular interest in medical oncodermatology where he has developed an expertise in the skin findings associated with cancer and cancer therapeutics and has been published in the peer-reviewed medical literature on this topic. Dr. Para is also dedicated toward providing culturally-competent care for sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients and plans to be a point-person within the field of dermatology and the Mount Sinai Health system for this vulnerable population.
Beyond these specific areas of interest, Dr. Para practices general dermatology and effectively manages the wide spectrum of skin diseases affecting patients of all ages. His goal is to provide competent and compassionate care for all patients and places special emphasis on ensuring his patients understand the science and medicine behind their skin diseases and prescribed therapies.
