Anthony Nehlsen, MD
Radiation Oncology
About Me
Dr. Anthony Nehlsen is a radiation oncologist at Mount Sinai West, where he specializes in the use of radiation therapy to treat malignancies of the breast, prostate and central nervous system. He uses cutting-edge resources offered in the Mount Sinai System – as well as advanced radiation therapy techniques such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, respiratory gating, and proton beam therapy – to optimize patient outcomes and minimize side effects.
Dr. Nehlsen understands the burdens associated with a cancer diagnosis, and works with the entire Mount Sinai team to ensure that patient concerns are heard and appropriately managed.
Dr. Nehlsen is also interested in the utilization of radiation therapy for benign conditions. He uses very low doses of radiation therapy (LDRT) to treat inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis. He also has experience in treating benign proliferative disorders, such as Dupuytren's contracture and Ledderhose disease.
He completed his residency at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where he received the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award. Dr. Nehlsen has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications covering a wide variety of oncologic topics, primarily focusing on quality of life and toxicity outcomes. In addition, he has opened prospective clinical trials evaluating toxicity outcomes for patients with prostate cancer as well as head and neck malignancies. Outside of work, Dr. Nehlsen enjoys spending time with his family, sports, and cooking.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
Dr. Nehlsen has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.
Mount Sinai’s faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
