About Me
Dr. Anton Camaj joined Mount Sinai in 2025 as a Structural and Interventional Cardiologist as well as an Assistant Professor of Medicine with The Icahn School of Medicine. Dr. Camaj is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology. His clinical focus includes transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve therapies (e.g., MitraClip, TMVR), transcatheter tricuspid valve therapies (e.g., EVOQUE, TriClip), transcatheter therapies for adult congenital heart disease (e.g., transcatheter pulmononic valve replacement [TPVR], ASD/PFO closure), left atrial appendage closure, para-valvular leak closure, complex PCI, and mechanical circulatory support. Moreover, Dr. Camaj has specialized training in advanced transcatheter electrosurgery techniques (e.g. BASILICA, LAMPOON, SESAME, etc.) that are required for more complex structural heart interventions. With a strong foundation in both clinical practice and academic research, Dr. Camaj is committed to providing patients with the highest level of care and building lasting, meaningful relationships.
After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, Dr. Camaj earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. During this time, he also earned his Master of Science in Clinical Research from the same institution. Dr. Camaj then completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow during his final year of training. He then completed an advanced fellowship in Structural Heart and Valve Disease Interventions at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
Dr. Camaj has been active in clinical cardiovascular research throughout his years of education and training. During his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, Dr. Camaj served as a research intern at M-CORRP and investigated clinical outcomes following acute aortic dissection as part of the IRAD Registry. While in medical school, Dr. Camaj was awarded a grant from the NIH to pursue formal training in clinical research that culminated in a Master of Science in Clinical Research and several publications related to blood transfusion practices during cardiac surgery. As a cardiovascular disease fellow, he was awarded the prestigious Glorney-Raisbeck Fellowship Award in Cardiovascular Diseases from the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Camaj also served as a Fellow-in-Training (FIT) member of the American Heart Association’s Interventional Cardiovascular Care Scientific Committee. His work has been published in leading cardiovascular journals including The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, JAMA Cardiology, JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, and Eurointervention, among others.
Inhis professional community, Dr. Camaj is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society. He serves as a reviewer for several prestigious academic journals and has been invited as faculty for national and international conferences. Dr. Camaj is actively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents, cardiology fellows and interventional cardiology fellows.
