Arianne Boylan, MD

Dr. Arianne Boylan is a board-certified neurosurgeon with extensive experience in neurosurgical and orthopaedic spine surgery. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is also a neurosurgical faculty member of the Complex Spine Program and Spine Oncology Programs at Mount Sinai Health System.

Dr. Boylan's clinical interests lie in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders and the diagnosis and management of spinal pathologies including trauma, spinal tumors, degenerative disease, and deformities of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. She offers her patients a multidisciplinary approach to maximize conservative options for relief from pain and neurological dysfunction, and surgery is offered only when non-operative management has been maximized and has not been effective for the patient.

Dr. Boylan sees patients at several locations, including the Mount Sinai Spine Center, Mount Sinai Morningside, and Mount Sinai Doctors Brooklyn Heights. During consultations, she explains the imaging findings to patients as they relate to their symptoms so that they can partner together as a team to strategize a treatment plan that works. Her expertise includes spinal tumors, revision spine surgery, robotic and computer navigated spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, spine trauma, myelopathy, spinal deformity/scoliosis, and degenerative spine disease.

Dr. Boylan obtained her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College, where she majored in Biology and English with a minor in Philosophy. She also ran track and cross country while at Wellesley. She completed her medical school training at Yale School of Medicine, where she also did a research fellowship and wrote her thesis on the molecular genetics of cerebral cavernous malformations. She completed neurosurgical training at University of Colorado and Wayne State University, with additional training in spine oncology at Detroit Medical Center/Karmanos Cancer Institute and a complex spine fellowship with Yale orthopaedics.

Dr. Boylan has authored several papers and book chapters and presented at national conferences on spine conditions. She is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the North American Spine Surgeons. She is engaged in medical student and resident education, is a Gold Award recipient, and has mentored several premedical students in their quest to pursue a career in the medical field.
