He completed his residency at Mount Sinai South Nassau and is a certified internal medicine physician by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He went on to complete a fellowship in osteopathic and neuromuscular medicine at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Sonnenschein believes that the patient is the most important person of the care team. Led by evidence-based practice, he aims to address the underlying cause of symptoms and collaborates with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan to reach their health goals. Dr. Sonnenschein takes the time to respectfully and empathetically listen to patient questions and concerns. His holistic approach prioritizes preventive medicine and helps patients develop a lifestyle that encourages healthy living now and in the future. Dr. Sonnenschein strives to provide not only the best healthcare, but the best care.
In addition to primary care, Dr. Sonnenschein specializes in hands-on, osteopathic treatments to help harness the body’s innate healing processes. This treatment can address neuromusculoskeletal issues such as headache, neck pain, back pain, joint pain, and muscle pain, and can also support ENT, cardiac, pulmonary, and gastrointestinal conditions. He also uses osteopathic techniques for pregnant and postpartum women with pain and for infants diagnosed with plagiocephaly, reflux, and latching issues.
Outside of work, Dr. Sonnenschein enjoys running, designing board games, playing saxophone, and spending time with his wife and family.
