Barbara Hirsch, MD
Endocrine, Diabetes and Bone Diseases (Endocrinology)
About Me
Dr. Barbara R. Hirsch returned to Mount Sinai in 2025 as an experienced endocrinologist. After completing her undergraduate studies at Cornell University, Dr. Hirsch earned her medical degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. She then completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital, followed by her residency in Internal Medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital. To complete her training, Dr. Hirsch went to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for her fellowship in Endocrinology. Most recently, she earned her Master's degree from Columbia University in Narrative Medicine. Dr. Hirsch is double boarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.
In her professional community, Dr. Hirsch is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, and the American Diabetes Association. She also plays an active role in academia by teaching The Healer's Art to first year medical students as well as a lecture in Narrative Ethics
Dr. Hirsch recently authored a publication in the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners titled "Transforming Diabetes Care with Continuous Glucose Monitoring: Rationale for Expanded Eligibility Criteria." She also co-authored a publication in the American Diabetes Association journal, Clinical Diabetes, titled "Importance of Postprandial Glucose in Relation to A1C and Cardiovascular Disease."
When discussing her role as a physician, Dr. Hirsch explains, "I have a masters in Narrative Medicine and value the relationships I have with my patients. In knowing and listening to patients, we can employ best practices and have the best outcomes. I strive to provide individualized personalized care. I am a huge proponent of continuous glucose monitoring for all patients with diabetes; the patient becomes part of the team. I look forward to working with you."

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
Dr. HIRSCH has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.
Mount Sinai’s faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
