About Me
Dr. Benjamin Kummer is a board-certified neurologist and clinical informaticist at Mount Sinai Health System. He is a teaching stroke attending in both the inpatient stroke services and the vascular neurology clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital. As a clinical informaticist, Dr. Kummer develops and implements information technology solutions to enhance neurological care quality & efficiency at Mount Sinai, such as clinical decision support tools, predictive analytic models, mobile- and tele-health. He has played an instrumental role in the implementation of teleneurology at Mount Sinai, particularly during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic from early 2020 onwards.
A New York native, Dr. Kummer earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly known as MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine). He completed his neurology training at the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center. He then completed training in vascular neurology at New York Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center and clinical informatics in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University.
Dr. Kummer has published work on the use of clinical informatics in neurology and teleneurology, as well as stroke systems of care and neuro-epidemiology. He is triple board-certified in neurology, vascular neurology, and clinical informatics. He is fluent in French and Spanish and in his spare time, he enjoys playing music and traveling.
