About Me
Ben Rapoport, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As a neurosurgeon in the Skull Base Surgery Center, he treats adult patients with a diverse range of conditions. He specializes in minimally invasive, technologically enabled surgery of the skull base and ventricular system, including endoscopic surgery for pituitary tumors, and comprehensive management of adult hydrocephalus. He also has a major applied research interest in the emerging field of brain-computer interfaces.
Dr. Rapoport also serves as the Scientific Director of Mount Sinai BioDesign, a medical device incubator at Mount Sinai, which operates as a center of expertise in engineering, prototyping, and project management to enable Mount Sinai physicians and researchers to translate their ideas into commercially viable products and practical solutions to problems in healthcare. The center also facilitates structured collaborations with the medical technology industry. With support from the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the program is in the process of launching a Comprehensive Center for Surgical Innovation to be based at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Rapoport received master’s degrees in Physics from Harvard University and Mathematics from Oxford University, a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his neurosurgery residency, chief residency, and fellowship training in endovascular neurosurgery and endoscopic skull base surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He has a track record of technology translation in the areas of digital health, including serving as co-founder of Simbionics (acquired by Apple), and of neurotechnology, including serving as a cofounding member of Neuralink.
Dr. Rapoport authored over 50 scientific publications and 40 patents, many of which are related to brain-computer interfaces and other innovations in medical technology.
Dr. Rapoport is committed to providing compassionate care to patients and their families while also delivering the most precise, technologically advanced, and minimally invasive treatments.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
