Why I chose to be Pediatric Endocrinologist?

Endocrinology is an area that deals with all the body systems. The field of Pediatric Endocrinology represents the medical specialty with the enigmatic challenges of connecting the knowledge of biochemistry, cell biology, physiology and apply logic of pathways to clinical scenarios. As a practicing pediatric endocrinologist, I experienced that this field is very rewarding while being a ‘detective’. This means taking time to go through medical records, physical exam, ordering diagnostic tests and finally diagnosing and appropriately managing individual case. This also included the ability to work with children and their families over many years and get to see them well. I was very fortunate to receive Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship training at NYU Langone Health/Bellevue Hospital Center under the mentorship of Dr. Raphael David (A founding member of the Pediatric Endocrine Society). Under his guidance, I started my career as a faculty member at NYU Langone health and continued this journey over two decades taking care of children with complex endocrine disorders, performed research and continued to be involved in teaching the trainees.
