Dr. Johnson provides individual psychotherapy and medication management for children, adolescents, and adults in his faculty practice. He treats a variety of diagnoses, including: anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorder, PTSD, gender dysphoria, and substance use disorders. Dr. Johnson is certified to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorders. Dr. Johnson provides a diverse range of psychotherapies based on client need, including supportive therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and skills associated with dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
Dr. Johnson has interests in clinical education, individual and group psychotherapy, pediatric psychopharmacology, and collaborative care. In addition, Dr. Johnson has expertise in the evaluation and treatment of transgender and gender non-conforming youth. He has given several presentations and is published in this area. He most recently was the first author on an article published in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America entitled, “Risk versus Resiliency: Addressing Depression in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth.” Dr. Johnson is a member of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues Committee (SOGIIC) of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), whose mission is to promote awareness and expand clinical competency in working with LGBTQ youth.
