About Me
Brett E Trusko, PhD, MBA is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Center for Translational and Bioinformatics and is an internationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and informatics. He has been at Mt. Sinai since 2008.
Dr. Trusko came to Mount Sinai after a successful career as a Healthcare Consultant, Futurist and Quality professional. He received bachelors degree in Biology and business, a Masters from Pacific Lutheran University and a PhD in Information Technology Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco California.
Dr. Trusko spent most of his career as a healthcare strategist, futurist, technologist and consultant before joining academia at The Mayo Clinic. He is best known for his collaboration with the late Russell Coile, where the pair combined to produce dozens of articles including the popular Healthcare 2020 series. After Mr. Coile’s death Dr. Trusko began a new career as a quality expert and became certified as a professional project manager, and a certified Six Sigma and Lean Master Black Belt. He wrote the 2007 book, Improving Healthcare Quality and Cost with Six Sigma which has sold thousands of copies world wide. He currently works with several countries in improvement strategies for healthcare. In 2006 Dr. Trusko became a founding member and Board Director of the United States Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel and has served two terms. He is a member of the ISO TC 215 and a Fellow in both the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Health Information Management Systems Society.
His current responsibilities at Mount Sinai include several grant funded activities and as Deputy Director of the World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Center. He holds faculty appointments as several universities around the United States. He lectures and consults globally regarding technology and quality standards with global companies and governments.
