About Me
Cameron R. Hernandez, MD, is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Mount Sinai Queens—one of the eight hospitals of the Mount Sinai Health System. With a focus on patient safety, and an excellent inpatient and ambulatory patient experience, he places a high value on relationship building and fostering communication within the medical staff of Mount Sinai Queens and across the spectrum of care providers and support staff.
Dr. Hernandez is a Professor of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, and Internal Medicine, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has held numerous appointments within the School focused on quality and shifting patient care to the outpatient setting to enhance quality of care, including Executive Committee, Mount Sinai Visiting Doctors Program; Clinical Council Committee, Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine; and the Ambulatory Epic Physicians Working Group Committee.
Dr. Hernandez was most recently Chief Medical Officer of Mount Sinai Queens. There, he focused on patient safety and an excellent inpatient and ambulatory patient experience—placing a high value on relationship-building and fostering communication within the medical staff of Mount Sinai Queens and across the spectrum of care providers and support staff.
Before that, Dr. Hernandez served as Medical Director of Ambulatory Care at The Mount Sinai Hospital and the Associate Director of the Mount Sinai Visiting Doctors Program. He was involved in the day-to-day operations of 75 hospital-based practices and has garnered a national reputation for driving quality in home-based and outpatient primary care. As a researcher, Dr. Hernandez has focused on describing the characteristics and needs of populations served by home-based primary care. He has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and was named the House Call Physician of the Year in 2016 by the American Academy of Home Care Medicine.
Dr. Hernandez is board certified in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital of Manhattan and a Geriatrics fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
