About Me
Dr. Carol Tunney has practiced Family Medicine since 2013 and joined Mount Sinai in 2022. After graduating with her medical degree from the University College Dublin School of Medicine in Ireland, Dr. Tunney remained in Dublin for training in Respiratory Medicine, Vascular Surgery, and Geriatrics at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. She then moved to the Mayo Clinic for her residency in Family Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year. With her board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Tunney's clinical interests include women's health, the management of chronic disease and thyroid disorders, and the optimization of diet, exercise, and stress levels.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Tunney has spent time in academia and research. She has twice won the Resident Teacher of the Year Award and her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Person-Centered Medicine. She has also written and given several national and international publications and presentations.
When speaking on her experience as a Family Physician, Dr. Tunney explains, "In my practice, I typically embrace a "whole patient approach." I believe in the importance of taking a holistic approach with my patients, understanding that emotional, spiritual and social distress impacts our physical health and vice versa. As a family physician, I value my relationships with patients. As I develop relationships with my patients, my ability to understand their unique health challenges grows and allows me to provide them with excellent evidence-based medical care while incorporating a holistic approach."
