About Me
Cathy Vasey, PhD, is a Clinical Instructor in the Division of Newborn Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Vasey’s primary role is to provide clinical and teaching services in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Follow-Up Program, in support of the clinical and academic missions of the Divisions of Newborn Medicine and Developmental Pediatrics. This includes conducting appropriate developmental assessments to children part of the NICU Follow-Up Program, interpreting assessment results, recommending patient management, and communicating results to the patient/family. Additionally, Dr. Vasey works with the interdisciplinary team of the NICU Follow-Up Program to provide referrals to New York State Early Intervention (EI) and to communicate with EI or private therapists on an appropriate longitudinal care plan. Having worked with multidisciplinary teams with other age groups in a school-based setting, Dr. Vasey values the importance of gaining accurate diagnostic evidence at the earliest stages possible to inform strategies that will lead to the best physical, behavioral, social/emotional, and academic outcomes for children.
