About Me

Chandhana Paka MD, FACOG, is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and double fellowship trained in urogynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She is a faculty attending in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai West and an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. With subspecialty training in both urogynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, Dr. Paka’s expertise spans both fields. She is adept at the surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for management of urinary incontinence and repair of pelvic organ prolapse—the “dropping” of organs such as the uterus and bladder. In addition, she is proficient at complex, minimally invasive surgical treatments for a wide range of non-cancerous gynecologic problems, including fibroids and endometriosis. Dr. Paka also sees patients for routine well woman exams and contraception, including IUD and Nexplanon insertions.

Dr. Paka received her BA in psychology from New York University in 2002. She received her medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, graduating in 2007 with a First-Class Honors Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Honors Degrees in both Surgery and Medicine.

She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency training at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals from 2007-2011. During her residency, she received multiple teaching awards. In 2008 and 2009 she was honored with the Best Teaching Resident Award for contributions to medical student and intern education and in 2010 she was awarded the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award from Columbia University School of Medicine. Dr. Paka served as an administrative chief resident in her final year of her residency.

Dr. Paka went on to enter an AAGL Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California, where she developed skills in laparoscopy, robotics and hysteroscopic surgery. During this fellowship, she published widely on surgical techniques, especially concerning complex treatment for endometriosis. She graduated in 2013.

From 2013-2016, Dr. Paka completed a second fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where she focused her surgical skills in vaginal and robotic surgery in treating pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence and other pelvic disorders. During her time at Hopkins she was awarded a visiting scholarship to work in Australia, where she focused on ultrasound imaging for fecal incontinence. She continues to publish in these and other related areas.
