About Me
Chanland (Chan) Roonprapunt, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon based at Mount Sinai West with office hours at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Phillips Ambulatory Care Center. He has a broad experience in the treatment of surgical disorders of the nervous system as well as a special interest in Chiari malformations, syringomyelia, and spinal conditions.
Dr. Roonprapunt completed his neurosurgical training at Montefiore Medical Center and Mount Sinai West in New York, NY. He continued his training with an orthopedic spine fellowship at the Beth Israel Spine Institute of New York, where he gained significant experience in spinal instrumentation in the management of spinal degeneration and deformity.
With a unique background in neurosurgery and orthopedic spine, he is prepared to treat all spine conditions by utilizing minimally invasive techniques of decompression and stabilization. Dr. Roonprapunt also has experience in artificial disc replacement in the cervical and lumbar spine. He has published multiple book chapters and articles in the neurosurgical literature regarding management of Chiari malformations and intramedullary spinal tumors. He has lectured nationally on these topics.
Dr. Roonprapunt graduated from the medical scientist training program at New York University School of Medicine, where he received his medical and PhD degrees. His PhD thesis involved the study of acute spinal cord injury. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology at Cornell University.
Dr. Roonprapunt has been recognized within the Guide to America’s Top Surgeons (2007) by the Consumer’s Research Council of America and Strathmore’s Who’s Who in 2007 and 2008. He has received the Patient’s Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Award from American Registry from 2010 through 2013. Dr. Roonprapunt has been selected into Castle and Connolly's Top Doctors of New York in Neurological Surgery in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
