About Me

Chanland “Dr. Chan” Roonprapunt, MD, PhD, is a board certified spine neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai West, with additional office hours at Mount Sinai-Union Square. He specializes in the surgical treatment of nervous system disorders, with a particular focus on degenerative spinal conditions (such as herniated discs and spinal stenosis), Chiari malformations, and syringomyelia.

Dr. Roonprapunt completed his neurosurgical training at Montefiore Medical Center and Mount Sinai West in New York before pursuing an orthopedic spine fellowship at the Beth Israel Spine Institute. There, he gained extensive expertise in spinal instrumentation for managing spinal degeneration and deformities.

With a dual background in neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery, Dr. Roonprapunt employs minimally invasive techniques for spinal decompression and stabilization. He is also experienced in artificial disc replacement for both cervical and lumbar spine conditions. His research contributions include multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed publications on Chiari malformations and intramedullary spinal tumors, and he has lectured nationally on these topics.

Dr. Roonprapunt earned his MD and PhD through the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program at New York University School of Medicine, where his doctoral research focused on acute spinal cord injury. He holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from Cornell University.

Recognized for his expertise and compassionate care, Dr. Roonprapunt has been named among Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors of the New York Metro Area in Neurological Surgery (2018–2023) and New York Magazine’s Top Doctors (2021–2024).
