Dr. Charles Ascher-Walsh, a nationally recognized physician, is the Director of the Division of Gynecology, Director of the Division of Urogynecology, and Director of the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at the Mount Sinai Health System. He also serves as the Director of the Fellowship Program in each of these divisions.
As the head of Mt. Sinai’s gynecologic research and a respected surgeon in the fields of fibroids, urinary incontinence, prolapse, and fistula, Dr. Ascher-Walsh has more than 20 years of surgical experience and has conducted extensive research with contributions to more than 100 published papers, abstracts, and text books relating to these conditions. His international research experience includes the completion of multiple randomized control trials and a number of projects examining minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Ascher-Walsh currently is a member of the medical board of Saving Mothers, which provides gynecologic and obstetric care to women around the world. He also was a long-time member of the medical advisory board of the International Fund for Women and Development, which provided obstetric fistula repair in Niger, Africa.
Fifteen years ago, Dr. Ascher-Walsh launched the Fibroid Center of New York. He has treated thousands of women with fibroids and has done research in alternative treatments for women with fibroids, including natural supplements and acupuncture.
Dr. Ascher-Walsh has been named a Castle Connolly/New York Magazine Top Doctor, Most Compassionate Doctor, and a New York Times Magazine Super Doctor annually for the past several years. He has been a featured expert in numerous media, including The BBC Worldwide News, New York Magazine and the Huffington Post.
Dr. Ascher-Walsh received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Brooklyn, where he received top honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Society. He completed his residency in OBGYN and his fellowship in Urogynecology and Minimally invasive Surgery at Columbia University, from which he also received a master’s degree in Biostatistics.
