About Me
Christopher Cao, MD is an Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He provides clinical care for a wide variety of gastrointestinal diseases. He values the patient-physician relationship and aims to provide the best possible care for his patients.
Dr. Cao earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College through an accelerated BS/MD program. He then completed his residency and fellowship training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, where he served as Chief Fellow. His honors include the Fellows-In-Training award from the American College of Gastroenterology, and the Richard C Gozon Compassion in Medicine award. While at Mount Sinai, he was awarded the outstanding outpatient preceptor of the year in 2023 and outstanding teacher of the year in 2025 by the division. He has authored multiple publications and abstracts in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and has presented at national meetings. He has both a research and clinical interest in the study of Celiac disease and is the director of the Mount Sinai Celiac Program.
