About Me
Dr. Clara Li is a clinical neuropsychologist and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, New York. She completed her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a minor in clinical neuropsychology from Yeshiva University.
Dr. Li's work focuses on memory, aging, and dementia in Asian American older adults, with a particular focus on Chinese American communities. Her research grew directly out of clinical practice. Dr. Li and her team develop and validate memory and thinking tests in Mandarin and Cantonese, so that Chinese-speaking older adults can be evaluated in their own language rather than through a test built for English speakers. Her studies also examine what raises risk — sleep, social and economic circumstances, and changes measurable in the brain and blood — and what may help protect memory with age.
Dr. Li's research is funded by the National Institutes of Health / National Institute on Aging. She leads a national study creating the Chinese-language version of the assessment used by Alzheimer's disease research centers across the United States, and another following older Chinese Americans to learn what raises or lowers their risk of dementia. She also leads the Mount Sinai site of two multi-site programs, the Asian Cohort for Alzheimer's Disease (ACAD) and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Study of Alzheimer's Disease, as well as clinical trials of treatments intended to protect memory. She publishes and presents her work nationally and internationally, and she trains and supervises Chinese-English bilingual trainees and research staff in cognitive testing and the interpretation of results.
