David Friedel, MD

Dr. David Friedel joined Mount Sinai in 2026 as a Gastroenterologist. After earning his medical degree from Upstate Medical in Syracuse, NY, Dr. Friedel completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center. He subsequently worked in the Maimonides Emergency Department before continuing his training with a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Dr. Friedel finished his training with a second fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound at Winthrop University Hospital, now known as NYU Long Island. He continued to work at NYU Long Island for twenty years and left with a rank of Associate Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Friedel is double-board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He sees patients for a wide range of their gastroenterological needs and has a special clinical interest in nutrition, malabsorption, cancer prevention, obesity, and small intestinal disorders.

In his professional community, Dr. Friedel is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Medical Association. He also teaches gastroenterology trainees at Mount Sinai South Nassau and was recently published regarding the current status of Barrett's Esophagus. Dr. Friedel has also been involved in research, with past topics including malabsorption.

When discussing his role as a physician, Dr. Friedel explains, "I entered medicine because I was fascinated with science and its applications to medicine. In my practice, I enjoy giving patients insights into their health that they may not have previously had." Outside of his time in the office, Dr. Friedel enjoys hiking, swimming, tennis, and theater.
