About Me

Dr. Doroshow is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Tisch Cancer Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She divides her clinical practice and research between the Early Phase Trials Unit, where she sees patients with a variety of solid tumors on phase 1 and 2 trials of novel agents, and the Center for Thoracic Oncology, where she sees patients with lung cancer. Her research focuses on the use of targeted therapies to treat cancer and examines the use of novel agents to target DNA damage and repair processes. She is passionate about her role as a guide to patients and families at a difficult time and making cancer less scary by talking about it in plain language. Clinical trials allow patients to try novel medications but can also be unfamiliar, and she is lucky to work with a team of clinicians who work to make the clinical trials process more accessible to patients.

Dr. Doroshow is also a historian of American medicine and holds a Ph.D. in history, which she uses to understand how social and cultural factors in the past and present play a role in patients’ experience of illness and treatment. Her book, Emotionally Disturbed: A History of Caring for America's Troubled Children, was published in April 2019 by the University of Chicago Press.
