Deepti Thomas-Paulose, MD

 

Dr. Deepti Thomas-Paulose is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York City.  Educated in New York, Dr. Paulose went to the Bronx High School of Science and received her Bachelor’s from Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City University of New York.  She received a scholarship to study abroad and spent two months in the KwaZulu-Natal district in South Africa studying the diagnosis of pneumonia in a HIV prevalent pediatric population. She obtained her medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and went on to complete her Emergency Medicine training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital.  During that time, she worked clinically in Mexico, Kenya and Nicaragua.

Dr. Paulose completed her International Emergency Medicine Fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital and obtained her Masters in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.  As a fellow, she worked with the Averting Maternal Death and Disability program in Malawi and on an ACLS training project in Gujarat, India.  She currently serves as the Fellowship Director in the Global Health Division of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Luke’s- Roosevelt Hospital and is involved in a number of education initiatives. Along with the Division Director, she has helped support the Gambian Medical Student Exchange program now in its third year to promote the specialty of emergency medicine in the Gambia.  In addition, she directs the efforts of a Dominican Republic program to foster the Spanish language skills and cultural sensitivity of health care providers working with the Dominican population at St. Luke’s Emergency Department.  She also runs the Global Health Track for emergency medicine residents at St. Luke’s Roosevelt.  Dr. Paulose is a practicing emergency medicine physician and has been board certified in emergency medicine since 2007.
