About Me

Deirdre J. Cohen, MD, MS, serves as the Director of the Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology Program for the Mount Sinai Health System and is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology and Medical Oncology).  She is also Medical Director of the Cancer Clinical Trials Office at The Tisch Cancer Institute.

Dr. Cohen is an expert in pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancers and has been awarded both federal and non-federal funding for research in these malignancies. Dr. Cohen takes a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, working with a team of providers, and places importance on a supportive and individualized care plan for each of her patients.

As Director of the GI Oncology Program, Dr. Cohen fosters important translational and clinical research including studies that build upon scientific discoveries at Mount Sinai and collaborating institutions. As Medical Director of the Cancer Clinical Trials Office, she spearheads the initiation and conduct of clinical trials that improve the lives of cancer patients and benefit the cancer community at large.

Dr. Cohen conducts research focused on immune targeted strategies and biomarker-driven studies with translational endpoints, and serves as principal investigator on many clinical trials pertaining to novel therapeutic approaches for patients with GI malignancies. She is a member of numerous national committees focused on the advancement of clinical research, including the National Cancer Institute’s colon task force.
