About Me
Dr. Dessislava Stefanova joined Mount Sinai South Nassau as a Bariatric Surgeon in 2023. After completing her undergraduate studies at Wesleyan University, Dr. Stefanova earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. She then completed a research fellowship in General Surgery and Endocrine Oncology with New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center before pursuing a General Surgery residency at the same institution. To complete her training, Dr. Stefanova joined Mount Sinai's Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgery / Bariatrics Fellowship Program. Dr. Stefanova is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Her clinical interests include weight loss surgery, sleeve gastrectomy, RYGB, LAP band removal, hiatal hernias, inguinal hernias, and umbilical hernias.
In her professional community, Dr. Stefanova is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. She is also involved in academia where she serves as a faculty member in the Mount Sinai South Nassau residency program.
Dr. Stefanova is bilingual and can communicate with her patients in English and Bulgarian.
