About Me

Divaldo Camara, MD, is an Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery at the Mount Sinai Health System, with his main practice site at Mount Sinai Morningside and at Mount Sinai West. His clinical focus includes spinal cord injuries, degenerative spine disease, traumatic brain injury (TBI), benign and maligent brain tumors, meningiomas, epilepsy surgery, skull base tumors, and hydrocephalus. Dr. Camara is known for his leadership on medical practice and is dedicated to continuously improving patient care. He is an attentive and compassionate advocate for patients with a positive attitude when working as part of a team.

Dr. Camara graduated from medical school at the Federal University of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil in 2006. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the Hospital da Restauracao in Recife, Brazil in 2012, followed by a skull base fellowship at the International Neuroscience Institute in Hannover, Germany. Dr. Camara practiced neurosurgery as an attending at academic centers in Brazil, focusing on skull base neurosurgery, trauma, and spine.

After moving to the United States, Dr. Camara studied neuro-oncology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and skull base anatomy during his research fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College. In 2016, Dr. Camara joined the Mount Sinai Health System, for fellowships in both general neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery.

Dr. Camara has published neurosurgical papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented posters in major American neurosurgical meetings. He is conducting research in epilepsy and new technology to better diagnose epilepsy.

The state of Florida requires out-of-state professionals who are registered to provide telehealth services to display a hyperlink to the Florida Department of Health telehealth web page. This allows Florida patients who are receiving medical care by telehealth to confirm the provider’s licensure and Florida registration.
