About Me
Dr. Fredrick is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and serves as Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology for the Mount Sinai Health System, where he is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to children with vision threatening eye conditions as well as restoring ocular alignment to children and adults with strabismus (misaligned eyes). In addition to being internationally recognized for his expertise in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, Dr. Fredick’s clinical and research interests include myopia prevention, congenital cataracts, and cerebral visual impairment.
Education has always been the focus of Dr. Fredrick’s academic career; he has served as ophthalmology residency Program Director at three separate medical schools and is a sought-after speaker on the topic of medical education. Dr. Fredrick is currently Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at Icahn School of Medicine, helping to ensure that over 2500 residents and fellows receive the best possible training while delivering the safest most effective care for the citizens of New York and beyond. In addition to serving as a longtime examiner and question writer for the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Fredrick has participated in over twenty international surgical teaching programs with Orbis International, teaching ophthalmologists’ surgical techniques that will allow them to continue to care for children in developing nations.
After completing his ophthalmology residency at University of California, San Francisco and fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Fredrick has served as a faculty member with leadership roles at UCSF, Dartmouth, Stanford and Oregon Health and Sciences University. Over the years, he has held leadership roles in major professional societies, including serving as Chair of the Professional Education Committee of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Chair-Elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Ophthalmology, and American Orthoptic Council where he is currently serving as President.
