About Me
Betty Kolod, MD, MPH is an internist and preventive medicine physician, practicing primary care and drug user health in East Harlem. She trained at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, the Montefiore Primary Care Social Internal Medicine Residency, and the Mount Sinai Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency, where she now serves as associate director. Her advocacy and organizing roles include chairing the board of Physicians for a National Health Program-NY Metro Chapter, leading the NY Doctors Coalition—a group that fosters health worker engagement in community-led social justice work—and serving on the Health Justice Steering Committee of Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition.
Dr. Kolod teaches and presents extensively on topics including harm reduction in primary care, physician advocacy, structural determinants of health, including universal healthcare, and health inequities. She is the recipient of a 2024 Excellence Award in Advocacy from the NY Chapter of American College of Physicians and a 2024 Excellence in Medical Education Award from the Mount Sinai Institute for Medical Education.
Born in Brooklyn, she now lives in the Bronx.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs.
