Elyse Lavine, MD

Elyse Lavine, MD is the Medical Director of the Mount Sinai Morningside Emergency Department and an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. 

Dr. Lavine has served as Interim Medical Director of the Mount Sinai Morningside Emergency Department since June 2023. Preceding that, she served for five years as Associate Medical Director. Dr. Lavine is an effective and collaborative leader, forging productive relationships with Hospital, Nursing, Administrative, Departmental and Health System stakeholders. As Medical Director, Dr. Lavine is responsible for the daily clinical operations of the Mount Sinai Morningside Emergency Department, as well as for longer term strategic planning for clinical, administrative and financial initiatives. She works closely with faculty and residents to enhance Departmental efficiency while focusing on providing positive employee and patient experiences.

Dr. Lavine’s clinical passions lie in patient quality and safety. She has been a critical part of the department as well as the system’s improvement processes. As part of the Emergency Medicine Quality and Safety Committee, Dr. Lavine has led multiple efforts aligning clinical practice and policy. She is active in student education as the director of the InFocus 3rd year patient safety and quality improvement course in the medical school, as well as the Associate Director of the Health System’s Health Care Leadership Fellowship. In addition, she has been actively involved in the Morningside Trauma program for the last 7 years as the ED liaison and Director of Trauma for the MSM Emergency Department.

Dr. Lavine serves as an elected Board Member for the New York American College of Emergency Physician and is an active participant in the ACEP Council. Dr. Lavine completed residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West in 2014, followed by a fellowship in Emergency Department Administration and Patient Safety. She received her medical degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
