About Me
Emily J. Senay, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health (EMPH) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is a clinician at the Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health treating workplace illnesses or injuries. In addition, she is a clinician at the World Trade Center Health Program Clinical Center of Excellence at Mount Sinai caring for responders and volunteers with illnesses or injuries sustained as a result of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. She is the founder of the World Trade Center Smoking Cessation Program and participated in the development of the Prevention Clinic, now fully integrated into the Primary Care Clinic, at the James J. Peters Veterans Affair Medical Center providing treatment for tobacco use. She precepts General Preventive Medicine and Occupational Medicine Residents in the Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health.
Dr. Senay is the director of the annual Clinical Climate Change conference through the Mount Sinai Institute for Exposomic Research. Dr. Senay is a core faculty member in the General Preventive Medicine Residency Program and in the Graduate Program of Public Health at Icahn School of Medicine. She served as Director of the MPH Program in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine from 2007-2010. She was Deputy Director of the General Preventive Medicine Residency Program and Director of the American Cancer Society Physician Training in Cancer Prevention from 2012-2015 at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Chair of the Sustain Mount Sinai Executive Committee, overseeing programs aimed at reducing waste, water and energy use, and carbon emissions throughout the Mount Sinai Health System. She is board certified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health and certified in Lifestyle Medicine by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
Dr. Senay’s interests include climate change impact on health, cancer prevention, asbestos exposure and risk of mesothelioma, sarcoidosis in WTC responders, sustainability in healthcare and well-being as a metric for overall health.
