About Me

Erika is an MD-PhD student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai with an interest in cancer immunology.

Originally from Long Island, her interest in science and medicine began in high school, where she was mentored by Ms. Maria Zeitlin. At this time, she pursued a project focused on cell-based delivery of microRNAs via gap junction channels in the lab of Dr. Peter Brink at Stony Brook University. Erika went on to pursue a BS in Biology at Stony Brook University. As an undergraduate, she studied the contribution of sphingolipids to the response to chemotherapy in the lab of Dr. Daniel Canals, as well as pursued multiple transcriptomics and epidemiological software engineering research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Moffitt and Dr. Jonas Almeida.

At Mount Sinai, Erika serves as the lead software engineer for the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership student-run free clinic. She assists with new student and annual retreat programming, as well as leads the NYC Physician-Scientist Network, which connects MD-PhD students from programs across the NYC area via social and professional events. Outside of work, Erika enjoys cooking, running, and spending time with friends.
