Dr. John Harvey is a board-certified general surgeon with over 20 years of experience in bariatric surgery, weight loss management, general surgery, and trauma surgery in New York City. He has performed more than 1,500 bariatric procedures, including complex primary and revisional weight loss surgeries, with a track record of excellent outcomes and patient safety.
Dr. Harvey specializes in minimally invasive surgery, using the latest laparoscopic and robotic techniques in areas such as foregut surgery and hernia repair. His commitment to advanced surgical care ensures faster recovery times and improved patient satisfaction.

Dr. Harvey has a strong clinical interest in comprehensive weight management and is board-certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He develops personalized treatment plans combining:

Dr. Harvey is Associate Director of the Advanced GI Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery Fellowship Program at the Mount Sinai Health System, where he trains medical students, residents, and fellows in advanced surgical techniques and comprehensive obesity care.
He also serves as Unit Medical Director of the 8 East Surgical Unit at Mount Sinai Morningside, collaborating with nursing leadership in a dyad model. Using LEAN methodology, Dr. Harvey leads initiatives to improve patient safety, staff well-being, and operational efficiency. He was honored with the Department of Nursing’s Physician of the Year Award in 2022.
