About Me

Ezekiel is a fourth-year MD-PhD (2nd year in PhD) student at the Icahn School of Medicine, originally from New York, who graduated summa cum laude from CUNY Lehman College with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, concentrating in Biochemistry. During his time at Lehman, he worked in the lab of Dr. Moira Sauane, where he studied the effects of IL-24 on cancer cells, focusing on immune checkpoint regulation and molecular pathways involved in cancer progression. Ezekiel also completed summer research at the National Eye Institute under Dr. Charles Egwuagu, investigating the role of STAT3 in immune cell function and its therapeutic potential in treating uveitis.

As a PhD student in Dr. Samstein's Laboratory, Ezekiel is conducting research at the Marc and Jennifer Lipschultz Precision Immunology Institute, where he is studying how HLA genetics shapes tumor immunosurveillance and developing mouse models to explore immune system-based interventions for lung cancer prevention. He has also mentored high school, undergraduate, and rotating students, guiding them through scientific concepts and research techniques.

In addition to his research, Ezekiel has been involved in various leadership roles, including serving on the Sinai Learners Assessment Committee and participating in MSTP admissions. After completing his medical training, he aims to continue investigating the intersection of genetics and immunology in cancer.

Outside of the lab, Ezekiel enjoys going to the gym, swimming, soccer, cooking and exploring the vibrant food scene in New York City. Fun facts about Ezekiel is: he has done the highest bungee jump in South America (Colombia to be specific)
