About Me

Farzan Filsoufi, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Vice Chairman of the Outreach Program and an attending surgeon at Mount Sinai Morningside who has performed thousands of heart surgeries. He trained in general and cardiovascular surgery under the mentorship of the world-renowned Dr. Alain Carpentier in Paris from 1991 to 1996 and was appointed as an attending for two years. Working alongside Dr. Carpentier during his residency and first faculty appointment at Broussais Hospital gave him exposure to cutting-edge medical and surgical care of patients with valvular heart disease.
Dr. Filsoufi joined The Mount Sinai Medical Center with a group of cardiothoracic surgeons led by Dr. David Adams in 2002. Over the last two decades, Dr. Filsoufi has established himself as a high-volume cardiac surgeon with excellent surgical outcomes. He has been selected in Castle Connolly Top Doctors in both the New York Metro Area and the United States as well as being featured in New York Magazine's Best Doctors issue. He has been very successful in establishing a very strong relationship with the cardiology community in New York State. His excellent surgical outcomes are published annually by the New York State Department of Health.

 

Dr. Filsoufi's clinical interests include the surgical management of of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and end stage heart failure. He has special expertise in mitral valve reconstructive surgery, complex coronary artery revascularization, reoperative surgery, and high-risk cardiac surgery, an interest which he developed during his training, and has focused on in his practice.
Dr.Filsoufi has played a key role in the development of coronary artery bypass grafting and valve surgery at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Dr. Filsoufi has also been extensively involved in the administrative duties of his department and in the education of residents and surgical fellows. He is an excellent teacher and enjoys working with residents daily. He has actively participated in the surgical education of residents and attendings concerning both coronary artery bypass grafting and reconstructive valve techniques. He has mentored several members of the faculty in the design of their research projects and the development of their clinical practice with great satisfaction. Dr. Filsoufi is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, The European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery, The Society of Heart Valve Disease and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Dr. Filsoufi has been invited to present his research at medical symposia, national and international conferences. He has been on the editorial review board for prestigious journals in the field of cardiovascular surgery and on the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia.
