About Me
Fionnuala Crowley, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she specializes in the treatment of patients with lung cancer in the Center for Thoracic Oncology. She completed her medical training in Ireland, and following graduation spent a year working as a physician and conducting lung cancer research before moving to Mount Sinai to complete her clinical training. She was selected as one of four physicians across the United States for an integrated fellowship in hematology, oncology, and palliative medicine.
Dr. Crowley offers her patients the full range of treatments for lung cancer, including access to novel therapies through clinical trials. From diagnosis and throughout treatment, her training in palliative medicine gives her additional expertise in managing the symptoms of cancer and its treatment, as well as in communication, emotional support, and care coordination. This supportive care goes hand in hand with treating the cancer, helping patients feel their best while they are undergoing treatment. She works alongside each patient and their loved ones as a team, making treatment decisions together and supporting them through what is often a very frightening time.
Dr. Crowley's research spans the full spectrum of lung cancer care, from clinical trials aimed at preventing lung nodules from progressing to cancer, to the use of machine learning models to personalize treatment for patients with advanced disease, to improving the delivery of palliative care for all patients with cancer. She is a published author in leading journals including Lancet Oncology, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, and the Journal of Thoracic Oncology. Dr. Crowley is a member of several American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) committees and currently co-leads the ASCO Palliative Oncology Community of Practice.
