About Me
Dr. Frank Accardi has been a practicing ophthalmologist in New York City since 1985. He completed residencies in both ophthalmology and internal medicine, as well as a postgraduate fellowship year in ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical School. For ten years he delivered a series of formal lectures in order to fulfill his responsibility for preparing resident ophthalmologists to take the certification exams of the American Board of Ophthalmology in the section on Clinical Optics and Refraction. This lecture material dealt with the information that was the very basis of the later enormous interest in the surgical correction of refractive errors, first in laser vision correction and then in cataract surgery, including multifocal and astigmatism correcting toric intra-ocular lens implants. The vast majority of Dr. Accardi's private practice over the years has been associated with The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, the oldest specialty hospital in the Western Hemisphere and perennially in the top ten of eye programs, as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. He is Senior Attending Surgeon at the infirmary and has made available to his patients whenever necessary consultants of every sub-specialty of ophthalmology, many of whom enjoy national reputations in their areas of expertise. Dr. Accardi personally performs all his intra-ocular surgeries at this excellent institution. Dr. Accardi maintains a special clinical interest in the intersection of systemic and ocular disease and modern cataract surgery, along with the correction of near-sightedness, astigmatism and other refractive errors. Our practice is equipped with all the necessary equipment to diagnose cataracts, glaucoma, external eye conditions and the vast spectrum of eye diseases.
