About Me

Dr. Frank Caliendo joined Mount Sinai in 2016 as a colon and rectal surgery specialist. After attending Hofstra University for his undergraduate studies, Dr. Caliendo earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He then studied General Surgery during his residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center before completing his fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. As a double-board certified physician by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery, Dr. Caliendo specializes in minimally invasive treatment through laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques.

Before Dr. Caliendo's current roles as Senior VP of The Mount Sinai Health Network and Director of Colorectal Surgical Services at Mount Sinai South Nassau, he served as Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Caliendo is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Hofstra Medical School where he has taught minimally invasive resection procedures to colorectal surgical residents for over 20 years.

In addition to his academic appointment, Dr. Caliendo is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has presented his research at local and regional colorectal surgical society meetings. He has also presented his work nationally to the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, of which he is an active member.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Caliendo is kept busy by his four boys who enjoy boating, the beach, cooking, and playing music. With his undergraduate degree in musical studies, Dr. Caliendo finds that music helps to keep his life balanced. Dr. Caliendo's patients can read more about his journey through medicine and view CRSSNY's day, evening, and weekend hours at https://www.crssny.com.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments

The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.

Industry Relationships

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.

Dr. Caliendo has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.

Mount Sinai's faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
