Gabriel Cooper, DPM
Podiatry
About Me
Born and raised on Long Island, where he developed a passion for outdoor activities and community service at an early age, Dr. Cooper earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Stony Brook University. A graduate of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, he completed his residency training at Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, one of New Jersey’s largest networks of hospitals and physicians. While covering a robust in-patient service at two large hospitals, he gained considerable exposure to the management of lower limb infections and traumatic injuries, which typically involved a multidisciplinary approach.
In addition to performing numerous elective procedures of the forefoot and rearfoot at local ambulatory surgical centers, Dr. Cooper also served as Chief of Research for his department, significantly advancing both the System’s national profile and the knowledge base of colleagues in the field. These gratifying experiences prompted Dr. Cooper to complete a fellowship in Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY, where he collaborated with physicians from multiple specialties with special expertise in treating wounds of the lower extremities. During his fellowship, he gained certification through the American Board of Wound Management as a Certified Wound Specialist Physician.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Cooper has presented his research at national conferences, and among his honors is the R. Ephraim Sturm Memorial Scholarship, in recognition of his dedication to community volunteerism. Within the foot and ankle, patients may present with a wide range of pathologies, and Dr. Cooper’s comprehensive training affords him the ability to offer a wide variety of customized, conservative, and surgical treatment plans. He has a special interest in treating dermatologic conditions, musculoskeletal conditions, and working with patients who have diabetes. Utilizing his empathy, attention to detail, communication skills, and optimism, he maximizes positive outcomes and promotes a healing experience. In his free time, Dr. Cooper enjoys hiking, playing tennis, cooking, reading short stories, and spending quality time with his wife and children.
