About Me
Gabe Oland, MD, is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Mount Sinai Health System. He works in the Garlock Division of General Surgery and specializes in minimally invasive surgeries, using small incisions for weight loss, acid reflux, and hernia repair. Dr. Oland is happy to see patients and communicate in both English and Spanish.
Regarding his training, Dr. Oland earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Arizona State University and then his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has been caring for and operating on patients throughout his general surgery training at UCLA in Los Angeles, California, and his advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Oland has always applied his passion for engineering to improve his surgical patient care. He has published research in areas including medical imaging, virtual surgery software, and COVID-19 testing. He is currently the Director of Surgical Innovation and Artificial Intelligence for the Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai, where he is studying and applying how to use computer vision (a type of artificial intelligence that interprets image and video data) to augment surgeons’ abilities in the operating room. The patients of Dr. Oland can rest assured that they are in capable and caring hands, and that the latest technology will be employed to give them the best surgical outcome possible.
